The long-serving Madrid full-back told reporters while readying himself for World Cup duty alongside Neymar: "Cristiano doesn't own Real Madrid so if the president wants to sign somebody he will do it".

Ronaldo has claimed that the size of his contract is not the most important issue for him, though sources close to him told ESPN FC last January that the fact that Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar both earned more from their clubs was a factor in their thinking. Today, Man Utd are linked with Cristiano Ronaldo...

Reports also indicate that Ronaldo believes Real Madrid have not supported him well enough with regards to a potential court case surrounding image rights.

The goal of the journey of the Madrid emissary to the English city was actually to tie up the signing of the young Rodrygo, a circumstance that occurred despite the Santos president's attempt to get more millions at the last moment and with the deal already closed. He had said: "it was very nice to be at Real Madrid".

Ronaldo spent six years in Manchester between 2003 and 2009 before going Real, winning a raft of trophies including 3 league titles, 2 League Cups, The FA Cup and the Champions League in 2008.
