David De Gea says discussions about his future at Manchester United are not important as he focuses on the upcoming World Cup.

The Spaniard has established himself as the best goalkeeper in world football and has been courted by Real Madrid for the last four summers.

It's the World Cup finals and whenever you are competing in a tournament at this level, whether it's the Euros or the World Cup, you always go into it with the same hopes of doing well, helping the team and being a strong side; we are all full of hope going into these finals. From the beginning I said that everything was a lie and some even said that I shouldn't be in the national team and, in the end, it was shown to be a lie.

"I am a very calm guy and it is hard for me to be affected, but you have family, people close to you, who are affected more". Hopefully we can go far and win.

He also warned any attempt by so-called hard Brexiteers to "overthrow" Mrs May would be "completely mad". Government sources signalled to the Press Association that ministers were set to back the move.

However, when asked about the possibility of the move resurfacing De Gea refused to outright rule out the possibility and instead insisted that all of his energies were focused on the World Cup. "The issue is that what he said back in the day was in public and that is why I think the apology should also be a public one. I still don't know what was behind it all and everything that came out a few days before the start of Euro 2016".

"I think that for a time I wasn't treated as I should have been", he said. "There are many people who do not deserve to do interviews for them". It personally didn't affect me much but obviously I have people close to me that are affected by this more than me. We have a great national team but every game is a battle for us. A lot of people have been very unfair to me.
