Croatia and Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren claims that he should be regarded as one of the best defenders in world football having reached the World Cup final.

And the Liverpool defender has praised Croatian parents for "making good love" and giving the small country several sports stars.

He said: "It feels incredible, especially after everything that was said about us before the game". Both teams played better football in the tournament but it was the second-to-last game of a very long season for all the players. We showed our character, we showed that we deserved to be in the final and people should respect us.

"It's not only the English press".

"Sometimes it is unfair".

"I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense". He deserves, if we win this World Cup, the Ballon d'Or'.

A Croatia global, who featured in the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final in May, believes his performances over the past few months prove that he is "one of the best defenders in the world".

"It's something, for me, special".

"I really didn't understand these questions, always looking back to where I made some mistakes". This is too much about me.

"But whatever, this is what gets me more motivated to work harder and prove everyone wrong, everyone".
