Supergirl movie from Warner Bros. to fly into theaters

According to Deadline, Oren Uziel (writer of, well, The Cloverfield Paradox) has been hired to write a script.

This will be Supergirl's debut in the DCEU but Melissa Benoist has played the superheroine on the well-regarded CW TV series, Supergirl.

Supergirl is flying back to the big screen.

The website notes that Supergirl would reflect a change in focus for the so-called DC Extended Universe following the appointment in January of Walter Hamada as head of DC Films, replacing Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. It followed Kara Zor-El, who was born and raised in Argo City - a fragment of Krypton that survived destruction.

Indirectly referenced, but not actually introduced, in 2013's Man of Steel, Supergirl is central to the popular multimedia franchise DC Super Hero Girls, as well as the Super Best Friends Forever animated shorts.

That, however, is the part of this story where rumors take over, since the report goes into some loose talk about the purported objective of the new Supergirl movie.

In the comics, Supergirl was another Kryptonian and cousin to Kal-el, aka Superman. Helen Slater played Supergirl in the pic, co-starring Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, and Peter O'Toole. Other films in the pipeline at DC include The Joker set for next October, Birds of Prey starring Margo Robbie as Harley Quinn, and a new Batman movie, likely without Ben Affleck.

Wonder Woman won't be the only female DC Comics superhero on the big screen. It's also unclear right now if Henry Cavill's Superman would make an appearance in the movie. Batgirl is also in the mix, written by Christina Hodson.
