One month before production had been scheduled to start on Cowboy Ninja Viking, Universal has pulled the comic book adaptation from its release calendar and delayed filming, a spokesperson for the studio confirmed to EW.

Collider first reported that the studio had removed the Pratt vehicle from its upcoming release schedule, while noting that the project is still in development and other talent, like Game of Thrones director Michelle MacLaren, are still attached.

The screenplay has so far been through the hands of Dan Mazeau, Ryan Engle, Craig Mazin and Deadpool duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Universal said it will be re-dated at a later time to accommodate production scheduling. It was being speculated that if the wedding with beau Nick Jonas is not the reason then Priyanka Chopra opted out of Salman Khan's Bharat and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kothewali, it must be Pratt's film. Cowboy Ninja Viking's story centres around a lethal agent, played by Pratt, whose treatment by a psychotherapist leaves him with "an ability to manifest the deadliest attributes of the three titular personas". Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner and Mark Gordon are producing this unique take on the comic book genre.

If ever there was a would-be blockbuster that sold its high-concept in the title, it is Cowboy Ninja Viking. The next Guardians sequel was all set to shoot in early 2019, but Marvel has yet to make a formal announcement about the movie and how it will move forward since Gunn got the axe. He'll also return to voice Emmet Brickowski in The Lego Movie 2 and he has the western The Kid coming up next year.

It looks like Cowboy Ninja Viking might not have the best luck getting to the big screen.
