Depp plays the role of LAPD detective Russell Poole, who investigated the rapper's murder.

Now, just one month after Rolling Stone published a scathing article detailing Depp's financial and personal distress, his film about the murder of Notorious B.I.G has been pulled, according to THR.

Due for release on 7th September, Brad Furman's investigative crime drama City of Lies, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker, has been pulled from USA cinemas mere weeks before release.

Global Road, which acquired the movie's original distributor Open Road last summer, has not set a new date for the pic, we're told. "In search of the truth, the two team up and unravel a growing web of institutional corruption and lies".

Depp is set to star in the upcoming movie, Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, written by J.K. Rowling.

"In spite of fans voicing their concerns online about his presence in the movie after allegations of physically abusive behavior involving ex-wife Amber Heard emerged, the actor received applause and cheers from the Hall H crowd", says THR. At this point, Johnny Depp has become an incredibly risky actor to cast simply due to the controversy that regularly surrounds him.

City Of Lies has been shelved, for now.

Deadline reports that distribution company Global Road has not set a new release date, leaving the film's future hanging in the balance. Despite this, it would still be an interesting route for them to take.

The crime thriller, about the murder investigations of Tupac Shakur and The Notorious BIG, was intended for release on 7 September, which will be the 22nd anniversary of Tupac's murder.
