It remains to be seen what kind of impact the new boys can have, as Arsenal prepare for a testing opening to the new season against Manchester City and Chelsea, but the Gunners are setting the loftiest of targets.

The 68-year-old parted ways with Arsenal at the end of last season, replaced by Spaniard Unai Emery, but has made no secret of his desire to continue coaching.

With his second league match away to London rivals Chelsea, former Sevilla and Paris St Germain coach Emery could hardly have a tougher start to his first campaign in England.

"There was a feeling when we've won the league (previously) everybody was a little bit less (intense)", City captain Vincent Kompany said.

Another advantage that Emery probably has going into Sunday's game, and by extension the rest of the season, is the fact he has had more time working with most of the players who were not on World Cup duty for their national teams. "I came in (training) this time and it's completely different".

Emery is leading the Gunners into the new season after 22 years under Arsene Wenger.

Everton sign Bernard, Mina, Gomes in final hour of window
Everton have announced that Mina will be No 13 while Andre Gomes will be No 8. The Brazilian signed from Watford in a mega deal earlier this summer.

"If it's not their goal to win the league, why all the changes in the club?"

Emery's priority - like Sarri at Chelsea - is ensuring there isn't another season out of the Champions League.

In the three matches between the two clubs last season, City won 9-1 on aggregate.

However, former Premier League victor Lehmann has dismissed the idea suggesting that other teams like Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United too could compete for the title and it won't be a lopsided campaign like last time. The Egyptian signed a new deal with the club in March but the signings of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi mean he is now surplus to requirements.

Lehmann also said Arsenal's new goalkeeper Bernd Leno still has a lot to prove as he tries to topple Petr Cech as the Gunners' No. 1.

Elsewhere, fresh from their Championship exploits, promoted teams Wolverhampton Wanderers, Cardiff City and Fulham take on Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace respectively.
