Hurricane Florence's came ashore at Wrightsville Beach, near Wilmington, N.C., at 7:15 a.m. ET on Friday with sustained winds of 90 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

Forecasters say the combination of a life-threatening storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. Forecasters said "catastrophic" freshwater flooding was expected along waterways far from the coast of the Carolinas.
The hurricane center predicts as much as 101 centimeters (40 inches) of rain for some parts of North Carolina.
This landfall has been a long time coming: The hurricane arrived more than two weeks after the National Hurricane Center issued its first advisory for the storm.
