The nostalgic re-issues of the classic consoles have been hugely popular amongst Nintendo fans, with the most recent SNES Classic Mini has sold 5.28 million units worldwide since its launch in September 2017.
The release date is now set for December 3, with pre-orders available in the United States and Canada at US$99.99, but regional availability will be announced soon. However, unlike the original PlayStation that used dedicated cartridges, the PlayStation Classic is based on more advanced technologies that bring onboard storage and more a compact overall build that is touted to be 45 percent smaller than 1994's PlayStation.
It also comes with an HDMI cable, a USB cable to power it up, and the original buttons on the system act in new, useful ways - again just like how the NES Mini's reset button would take you back to the home menu. The system costs $100 Dollars, $130 CAD, and 9,980 yen.
Two years after Nintendo announced the NES Classic, Sony now has an answer of its own. The console comes with a virtual memory card allowing players to save their progress without the use of the little grey memory gadgets that came with the old console. The PlayStation Classic will release December 3rd for £89.99/€99.99.
