Jimmy Butler requests trade from Timberwolves

Knicks president Steve Mills said NY wouldn't trade its draft picks and wouldn't trade for players it could just sign in free agency.

This means it's time for some speculation! "More to do with contractual matters". What trade packages from Brooklyn, New York and Los Angeles are actually realistic?

Those questions won't stop until the season ends - or until the Timberwolves answer them with actions. All three have max cap space to sign Butler as a free agent next July. Especially with Kristaps Porzingis injured, Butler is unlikely to help NY win meaningfully this season.

However, reports this summer claimed Butler was frustrated with the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns and Wiggins over their attitude.

If this is it for Butler in Minnesota, the partnership would have produced only 59 games over one.

Hollis-Jefferson, 23, also fits into that plan.

Sources familiar with the situation told Sporting News that Butler is uncertain about playing with Wiggins - Butler had problems last season with Wiggins, his work ethic and his approach on the defensive end of the floor.

Jimmy Butler Requests Trade, Handcuffs T-Wolves In Process
The Thibodeau-Butler meeting was expected to be a serious conversation on the franchise's fragile state, sources said. In 59 games for the Timberwolves last season, Butler averaged 22.2 points per game on 47.4 per cent shooting.

Butler is downplaying his fractured relationship with Towns as a reason for wanting a trade, league sources said.

Timberwolves receive: Tim Hardaway Jr.

I don't know whether they'll trade for Butler, but if the Clippers do, I know we'll crank up the Leonard-Clippers speculation even higher. It may seem a bit surprising at first, because, well, they aren't very good at basketball as now constructed. It's hard to develop much of a market if only a few teams would be involved.

But what could a potential Timberwolves-Knicks deal look like?

Adding a first-round pick may be unnecessary but if needed, would be possible. Together, maybe they could both get what they want.

Perhaps, the Knicks can find a worthwhile Butler trade that includes trading picks.
