The company's director of economic development had a sharp rebuke after reports over the weekend said the retailer is planning to build the second headquarters in Crystal City, Va. A decision could come as soon as this week, according to the source.
Numerous cities have been bidding for the online sales giant's second location - including Crystal City in Virginia.Amazon announced back in January it had narrowed its search for the location of its second headquarters to 20 cities.
At the time of writing, the Wall Street Journal has reported that Amazon may be splitting its future HQ2 across two cities, with 25,000 employees in each.
Discussions for Crystal City were more in-depth than in other cities in Northern Virginia and other locations, including NY and Dallas, the Post reported.

But significantly, 20% of these voters remain undecided or prefer someone other than the Republican or Democratic candidates. It is more favorable in the House, where Democrats need to gain 23 seats to take control of the 435-seat chamber.

Amazon laid out a variety of requirements for the location of its new headquarters, including proximity to an worldwide airport.
HQ2 is slated to start operating in 2019, which means that Amazon will have to be ready to hit the ground running with their new headquarters. The original plan called for just one additional headquarters ultimately projected to house 50,000 workers in a $5 billion, 8-million sq. ft. campus by 2027.
