The hinge for the display allows the user to switch between four different usage modes, including having the display, flip, extend, or recline.

There's an avalanche of new gaming notebooks making their debut at CES 2019 now that NVIDIA has unveiled its RTX 20 Series chips for laptops, but Acer is hoping to stand out with a pair of new entries in its Predator Triton series.

While that kind of horsepower would likely be enough for a gaming laptop in 2018, the Predator Triton 900 takes things further by offering a unique form factor.

It also offers gamers "multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics", according to Acer marketing manager Belinda Marais.

The Acer Predator Triton 900 will be available in South Africa from June 2019, and will be priced at R84 999.

Unfortunately, as impressive as the machine's construction and hardware specifications are, the Acer Predator Triton 900 comes with a hefty price.

Acer Predator Triton 500 will be made available in North America and EMEA in February at $1,799 (approximately Rs 1,25,000) and 1,999 Euros (approximately Rs 1,60,000), respectively. You can also get a slightly cheaper variant with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of SSD storage, a 6GB RTX2060 graphics card and no G-Sync.

This essentially makes it a 2-in-1 gaming laptop, though you're not going to want to carry around a 17-inch tablet - even if it is just 23.75mm (0.94 inches) thick.

Design-wise, The Triton 500 looks a lot like its bigger brother but without the hinge and with the trackpad positioned conventionally, below the keyboard, it's basically an ordinary, yet powerful laptop.

The Predator Triton 900 is powered by Intel's 8th-gen Core i7 processor, supported by up to 32GB RAM. NVIDIA G-SYNC technology creates fluid images as they zip across the screen while gaming or watching movies.

Available later this year, the PredatorSense mobile app gives control of the Predator PC from a smartphone. But the real standout here is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 GPU, which powers the 17-inch 4K IPS display. The app can control settings for overclocking, fan speeds, lighting, and audio modes.

The Predator Triton 900 is expected to launch in North America, China, and EMEA regions in March with prices starting at $4,000, €4,200, and ¥40,000, respectively.
