The woman in a vegetative state, who gave birth to a baby boy on December 29, has been at the Phoenix-based nursing facility since she was a toddler, PEOPLE confirms.

According to AP News, police are now investigating this as sexual assault and are in the midst of collecting DNA samples from all of the facility's male employees.

The report says the doctor who examined her at the long-term care facility where she lives found "no change" in her health.

"The woman and the baby were transported to a local hospital and at this time, both the mother and the baby are recovering".

Police investigators served Hacienda Healthcare with a search warrant that demanded DNA samples from all of its male employees.

David Leibowitz, a spokesman for Hacienda Healthcare, said Tuesday that it welcomed the action by police and had considered conducting voluntary genetic testing of its staff before company lawyers said that doing so would be illegal.

Officials say they are committed to cooperating with the police to "uncover the facts in this deeply disturbing, but unprecedented situation".

PEOPLE reports that the documents state she has been at the Hacienda HealthCare facility for more than 27 years, almost double the length of time that appeared in previous reports.

In a separate development, the San Carlos Apache Tribe said in a statement Tuesday that the woman at the center of the case is an "enrolled member" of the tribe.

It is not yet known exactly where the baby is being raised or who he is being raised by.
