"The video game industry continues to grow through a year of intense competition and transformational change".

"We think (postponing the Battlefield launch) was the right decision, but it put us in the middle of a very discounted holiday season", EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen said in an interview.

"We made some decisions on launch timing and key features of this game that we felt would improve the quality of the experience", said Wilson.

"Q3 was a hard quarter for Electronic Arts and we did not perform to our expectations", he added, referring to EA's results for the final three months of 2018.

Game franchises like "Battlefield" and "FIFA" are among EA's most iconic, but the rapid rise of online, often free-to-play games with engaging formats are challenging the dominance of EA, Activision Blizzard and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. If you've played Battlefield 5, you know that its single-player campaign was terrible and nowhere close to be described as a proper single-player experience.

The John Wall injury further pushes the Wizards into National Basketball Association purgatory

Patriots' Duron Harmon has great message for Lane Johnson
I just feel like, for what he believes and what he says, it doesn't sit well with me, so there's no point in going there. Harmon appears to be the first Patriots player to rescind an expected invite from the White House.

Electronic Arts expected Battlefield 5 to reach 8.3 million sales so the game's sales were 1 million lower than what the publisher anticipated.

Battlefield V still sold 7.3 million copies, but that's a million less than was planned for. "In addition, we also made the decision to prioritise other features, including a single-player experience, at launch over a multiplayer mode", said Jorgensen.

Last but not least, EA stated that it has more "live services" plans for Battlefield 5 and that its battle royale mode, Firestorm, will arrive in March 2019.

Overall, EA's sales during October to December were $1.289 billion, down from $1.6 billion in 2017. As a result the company is expecting revenues of "only" $4.875 billion for the full year, instead of the previously forecast $5.2 billion. While we are disappointed with the results, we understand where our challenges are, and we are deeply focused on applying the strengths of our company to address them going forward.
