Freezing rain overnight makes way for mild temperatures

The freezing rain made the roads slippery and forced plenty of closures and cancellations.

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for several eastern Ontario regions, including for the Kingston, Napanee and the Prince Edward County areas.

Although treated surfaces should remain in good shape through this period, people should still expect a slower commute to work Thursday morning due to icy secondary roads and wet to slushy primary roads and interstates.

"Sleet and freezing rain changes to rain fairly quickly along the coast, although freezing rain prevails after midnight across the interior", Metrologist Chris Lambert said in his latest weather blog.

Toronto and surrounding areas could be in for another icy and wet day on Thursday, Environment Canada says. That will continue into the 5 p.m. hour, before temperatures start to climb well above zero and rain takes over.
