"It's our first time ever presenting an award, and also the Grammys so... yeah I stayed up all night", he added. Ehrlich told The New York Times in an article also published on Thursday that the rappers had also declined his invitations to perform at the show.

This year, five of the eight Album of the Year nominations went to female artists: Cardi B, Carlile, Monae, R&B prodigy H.E.R. and Musgraves.

Women also have a strong presence in those top categories, including Lady Gaga, SZA, Maren Morris and Ella Mai. A little later, Gaga was shocked again when her single "Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Goin'?") won for Best Pop Solo Performance, for which she said she was absolutely shocked.

Carlile won three honours in the Americana category and will compete for the three biggest awards during the live show: album, song and record of the year.

Pop mega-star Ariana Grande - who dropped her highly anticipated album "Thank U, Next" just before the Grammys - slammed producer Ken Ehrlich over her decision not to perform, suggesting he was "lying" about her readiness.

Missing games in early April could easily come strictly by playing home games in Cleveland, where bad weather can be a factor. However, it could result in Lindor not being able to start his season until the regular season is already underway.

But Renald Beaudry, a criminal lawyer who was at Bissonnette's sentencing, doesn't think the sentence would be easy to overturn. But Huot said Bissonnette had previously considered attacking other targets including feminists, shopping centres and airports.

"Thank you so much", Grande tweeted.

Gaga, Carlile, Monae, Cardi B and Musgraves are all due to take the stage.

Unsurprisingly and well-deservedly, Childish Gambino was given best music video for "This Is America". "I hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more". Drake's "Nice for What" lost to Anderson Paak's "Bubblin"' and Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Future and James Blake's "King's Dead", from the "Black Panther" soundtrack. A representative for the Grammys didn't return an email seeking clarification about the tribute.

Rappers Post Malone ("Beerbongs & Bentleys") and Drake's best-seller "Scorpion" are also vying for the top prize.

This year's nominees mark a departure from the 2018 Grammys, where Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow was criticized when he said women need to "step up" when asked about the lack of women in the top categories. Taylor Swift, who was snubbed and one scored one nomination, also won't be at the show. Weeks later, the academy announced that it had hired Tina Tchen, a lawyer and Michelle Obama's former chief of staff, to head a new task force on inclusion and diversity. There will be awkward moments, but a planned tribute to Aretha Franklin, which will be performed by Yolanda Adams, Fantasia and Andra Day, had better be one to remember.
