Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is reportedly writing and directing the movie, following David Ayer who directed the first one.

Instead, it looks as though someone else will shoulder the character's rifle, as Idris Elba is now in line to replace the departing Smith.

Deadshot who acted as leader of the pack in the 2016 flick will now see Smith replaced by Idris Elba according to the Hollywood Reporter. Smith reportedly backed out of the film due to conflicting schedules that he wasn't able to work around.

Gunn - who was sacked from Marvel movie "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" by Disney over controversial past tweets - is believed to be helming the flick after it was previously revealed he is writing the script. No one from the cast has been confirmed to return to the sequel yet.
