Ms Pelosi's comments were expected to take centre stage at a closed-door House Democratic caucus meeting yesterday.

The timing of impeachment proceedings can be argued; I don't believe their necessity can be.

"Nancy Pelosi would have us believe this is some kind of evil, cold-hearted, right wing plot", Fox News contributor Deroy Murdock said during an interview on "Making Money with Charles Payne" Tuesday. And he's just not worth it, ' she concluded. Days ago, longtime Trump lawyer Michael Cohen testified that Trump was part of a criminal conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws. Nor do we have a President who gave daylight through his questionable morals for an impeachment proceeding conducted in egregious bad faith.

Together, Pelosi and Schiff's remarks are created to signal to outspoken Democrats in the House that senior lawmakers in the Democrat-controlled House aren't behind any drive to impeach Trump.

It means Democrats are effectively giving the Republican Party veto power over whether Trump should be impeached.

Her point about impeachment being divisive isn't entirely facetious, either.

Pelosi made waves Monday when she told the Washington Post that she was "not for impeachment".

"The bottom line is, talking about impeachment when we know the votes aren't there is not the most constructive use of our time", McGovern says. "And I am sure that there are twenty truly ugly things that crossed his mind that he didn't do precisely because we talked about it".

Then she answered: 'All of the above. No. No. "And probably right now is not the right time, but I think at some point it's going to be inevitable".

While acknowledging that she found Trump "ethically unfit. Intellectually unfit. Curiosity-wise unfit" - and she doesn't believe he'll be re-elected in 2020.

She said she didn't share that concern. "I do it because I love my country". It's a great country.

'But maybe not two terms. But she still muddled the issue by declaring a personal preference on the outcome, creating the impression that we already have enough information to make that decision, while failing to clarify how this is a process.

Sherman said that the multiple Democratic investigations of Trump might be a substitute for impeachment, "it's also possible it will be a prelude". And he's just not worth it. Well, is defending our legal system "worth it?"

Aides have indicated he is prepared to spend $40 million backing the impeachment effort.

The key question for Democrats is whether to proceed with impeachment hearings if Republicans refuse to join in that endeavor.

Fifty-eight Democrats voted against motion to table impeachment resolutions in December 2017, and 66 voted against the motion to table in January 2018-meaning those lawmakers wanted a vote on impeachment likely would've supported it. Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat, says he is planning to reintroduce articles of impeachment after his last effort, in December 2017, was defeated overwhelmingly. Pelosi forged messy consensus on a resolution condemning all forms of bigotry, in an area where Trumpian excesses (his racism and hate) roiled her conference, demanding an unusually ambitious response to one member's offenses.

'Is there a relationship?' she said, laughing when asked about it.

"I wouldn't go as far as the Speaker", said Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., in an interview with CNN Monday.
