The freakish theory, which has cropped up repeatedly throughout Trump's term in office, suggests that a body double for Melania accompanies the U.S. president at certain events, most recently a visit to survivors of a tornado in Alabama.

President Donald Trump slammed the "Fake Melania" conspiracy theory on Twitter on Wednesday morning, claiming the media "photoshopped" photos of the First Lady. Co-host Sunny Hostin noted that Melania Trump "is a very tall, statuesque woman" yet looked "kind of short" in Alabama. "I wasn't going to go along with this, but that one in that picture doesn't look like her".

On "Fox & Friends", contributor Tammy Bruce said the ladies of "The View" were using the conspiracy theory as "an excuse to mock the first lady". "It's a different shaped face".

It's unclear whether people actually believe that The First Lady has a body double, but we imagine that Trump's tweet will only further ignite the rumours.
