"In a conversation on Facebook, I used some language that I see now was insensitive", Belén Sisa, Sanders' incoming deputy press secretary for Latino outreach, said in a statement.

As first reported by Politico late Tuesday, Sisa, in the course of a Facebook exchange over Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar's controversial recent remarks, asked another commenter, "Do you not think that the American government and American Jewish community has a dual allegiance to the state of Israel?"

Ilhan Omar's repeated claims that Jews are buying United States politicians have fanned the flames of disapproval, even among her own fellow Minnesota Democrats.

According to Politico, Sisa, 25, posed her question during a Facebook discussion in which she declared her support for Omar. "There's definitely talk about people wanting someone to run against her", said state Sen.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed an anti-hate resolution sparked in large part by Omar's recent suggestions that Israel supporters want US lawmakers to pledge "allegiance" to the Jewish state - which was widely condemned as echoing the age-old "dual loyalties" smear against Jewish politicians. But Hunegs said Omar didn't care.

Omar is one of the first two female Muslim House members, along with Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, and has been the target of Islamophobic and racist attacks.
