Billboard may have blocked Lil Nas X's viral hit "Old Town Road" from the Country charts, but a legend of the genre is co-signing the 19-year-old from Atlanta. "While "Old Town Road" incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current version".

A fierce argument has broken out over Billboard's recent decision to remove a trap song from the US Hot Country Songs chart for not being authentically "country" enough, and like all truly spicy news stories, this one features a cameo from Billy Ray Cyrus. Lil Nas X, the artist who previously became popular on Twitter from running a Nicki Minaj fan account, got support from Country veteran Billy Ray Cyrus.
