The 15-man Australian squad was named at 10am on Monday (AEST), along with a pair of Australia "A" squads and the Australian central contract list.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Jhye Richardson, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff are the five pacers in the line-up, while Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa will take care of the spin department.

Peter Handscomb celebrates his maiden ODI century against India.

Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh have bee rewarded for their fine show with the bat while Aaron Finch will lead the side.

The decision for Langer now is whether to retain that combination when the 50-over World Cup begins in England and Wales at the end of next month or move one of them down to make way for Warner, who traditionally opens the batting.

The return of Smith and Warner was expected and it was always tight for Handscomb to find a place in the World Cup squad after their return. They were eligible to play the final two ODIs against Australia last month but the team-management decided playing in IPL is the best option.

Starc and Richardson have both been selected subject to fitness.

Cricket Australia's 2019 contract list: Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa. The advice from the CA medical team is they are progressing well and barring any setbacks will be available for selection ahead of our opening match against Afghanistan on June 1.

While Warner has been in red-hot form for Sunrisers, holding the orange cap with 400 runs, which includes a century and four fifties, Smith has found the going tough for Rajasthan, having scored just 186 runs in seven matches.

Josh Hazlewood has missed the World Cup squad due to a back injury.

Australia chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said Smith and Warner's return to cricket had been "pleasing".

He added that there had been some tough calls to make given the depth of talent available, but was happy to see Smith and Warner return to the worldwide fold.

Meanwhile, Marsh's non-selection came after he was named the country's new vice- captain alongside Josh Hazlewood for last year's Test series against Pakistan.

'Our focus is to have Josh back bowling at his best for the commencement of a big Ashes tour'.
