Zach Johnson hits on the 18th hole on Thursday during the first round for the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Ga.

The 2007 champion was practising his swing, but he ended up getting a little too close and clipped it which ended up bouncing off a tee marker.

"On the teeing area, there is no penalty and the player simply re-tees because the ball is not yet in play".

Former champion Zach Johnson has been involved in a freaky incident during the second round of the Masters, accidentally hitting his ball while taking a practice swing.

Johnson had fun with the incident, giving people on the tee box permission to laugh because, as he said, "That's embarrassing". "I don't think I could do it again if I tried". However, because the rules state a ball is not in play until after the tee shot, Johnson was able to re-tee it and hit away.

Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to call the federal election today. Morrison's pitch comes just as the economy shows signs of beginning to slow.

"Okay, there's a first for everything there boys", Johnson said, relieved.

Johnson then awkwardly stepped up to pick up his ball, looked around at his playing partners to see their reaction, and then took another whack at it.

Johnson, who need to make up some ground if he wants to keep pace with the rest of the field, can't keep sending wild shots into the stands and accidentally hitting the ball ten feet if he wants to stay in the hunt.

The mistake didn't seem to put Johnson off though, making birdie once he was properly up and running before finishing his second round three over par in total.
